In a world full of distractions, deadlines, and social pressures, we are often left with little space to pause and ask—what truly matters?
Yet, there is one person who stands patiently, unwavering—your Guru. A teacher not just of information, but of transformation. A guide who doesn’t impose answers but invites inquiry.
On this Guru Purnima, let us reflect on the art of questioning. For the right question, at the right time, has the power to open the right door.
Just One Verse
śhrī bhagavān uvācha
imaṁ vivasvate yogaṁ proktavān aham avyayam
vivasvān manave prāha manur ikṣhvākave ’bravīt
(Bhagavad Gita 4.1)“The Blessed Lord said: I taught this imperishable yoga to Vivasvān (the sun-god); Vivasvān taught it to Manu, and Manu in turn taught it to Ikṣvāku.”
Listen to 4.1-4.4
What does Arjuna do after hearing this?
He doesn’t nod blindly. He asks:
“You were born recently, how could you have taught Vivasvān?”
It’s a bold question—not rooted in arrogance, but in genuine confusion and curiosity. And that sincere inquiry becomes the gateway to a profound revelation: Krishna’s divine nature and the mystery of incarnations.
This is the art of questioning: to ask not to argue, but to understand. It is referred to as SamVada.
🙏 4 Bhagavad Gita Gurus & A Book
Over the years, I’ve been blessed to learn the Gita from four remarkable teachers:
Dr. Venkata Raju – for initiating me into this sacred wisdom and patiently explaining with stories and kindling the spark of daily study.
Dr. Prasad Kaipa – for illuminating the inner dialogue within each of us between Arjuna and Krishna.
Swami Bodhananda Saraswati – for awakening the wisdom to live the Gita, not just study it.
Dr. Shankar Krishnan – for integrating the Gita with science, service, and sādhanā.
Each one helped me refine not just my understanding, but also my questions.
As a tribute to their guidance and this sacred tradition, I invite you to pre-order the Bhagavad-Gita Handbook—a simple yet profound companion on your journey from two more of my teachers Koti Sreekrishna and Hari Ravikumar.
